Profile:
Steven Asiala is the Assistant Director for Researcher Engagement with the IDEA Center at the University of Notre Dame. In this role, Steven partners with Notre Dame faculty to identify research discoveries and innovations which serve as the basis for Invention Disclosures and commercial opportunities. He also acts as the primary point of contact for faculty and is responsible for communicating the IDEA Center’s role and processes to the academy. 

Industry experience:
Steven gained experience working at the University-Industry interface as the Senior Business Development Coordinator at the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC) in Glasgow, Scotland. This role required him to manage, track, and drive Industrial Biotechnology (IB) sector engagement across Scotland by building meaningful relationships with stakeholders from industry groups, businesses, academic institutions, and the public sector. Steven worked to connect businesses with a technological need to both funding mechanisms and academic subject matter experts in order to facilitate progress along the companies' innovation journeys.

During Steven’s academic research career, as both a Ph.D. student and postdoc, his work resulted not only in multiple publications but also in multiple invention disclosures and a provisional patent application.

Education:
Steven earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame and a BS in Chemistry from Grand Valley State University.
